The game was published by a company named KaSheng and released in Taiwan and other Asian countries in 1997. The game is an illegal pirated port, and was not developed with this involvement of Nintendo, Shiny, or Interplay.
Earthworm Jim 3 includes three different levels split into two parts each. The levels are based off New Junk City, What the Heck?, and For Pete's Sake from the original. Jim can attack with the whip and gun, but not both at the same time. The weapon you use is changed by hitting the SELECT button.
The backgrounds are sparse when compared to the original game due to system limitations. There is much less animation than the original, as well. The music is taken from the original game and used in the appropriate levels, although it is of lower quality due to system limitations. The ending uses the theme from New Junk City instead of the appropriate music from the original.
